From one end of the world to the other... serving others

Since the beginning of the year, two of our sisters have been honoured by their local municipalities for their lifelong service to the community. A wonderful recognition of their work!

In January, the mayor of the district of Ocongate, east of Cuzco (Peru), his councillors and other authorities invited the Infant Jesus sisters Tere and Carlota to a solemn ceremony to recognise their presence and service in Ocongate over many years. While Sr Tere was unfortunately unable to attend due to her age, Sr Carlota was delighted to take part in this wonderful day. ‘It was both a surprise and a stimulus to see the gesture of gratitude from the local council on behalf of the people of Ocongate,’ she says. ‘They highlighted our work with the children and families of the village where we live, especially those from rural communities living in the mountains... thanks to God and to the openness of our Institute, which has always been faithful to the wishes of Father Nicolas Barré!’

At the other end of the world, at the end of February, a Spanish town, El Ejido (Almeria, Andalusia), was also keen to show its gratitude to one of our sisters, Pilar. On the occasion of Andalusia Day at the municipal sports pavilion in Balerma, it honoured the ‘courage and effort’ of three people who have forged the identity of Andalusia… including Pilar García Mayor, whose life and work have contributed to the development of the town of Balerma, where she has lived for 31 years.
