Advent: a time of waiting, Hope, Expectation

We begin the season of Advent, the most beautiful time of the year, by lighting one of the candles on the Christmas wreath.  It is a call to be aware, to stay awake, and to wait in expectation for the Divine in the events of everyday life. As we gaze on the brokenness of our world we see life has become so precarious that we wonder how we can maintain hope in the midst of so much overwhelming darkness.  As I was thinking these thoughts, my eyes rested on a little flower making its way through a crack in a concrete wall.  This awe inspiring flower had to accept the darkness for a long period, patiently waiting for the light to provide the direction, before it could blossom forth. Advent invites us to direct our gaze toward Christ the Light of the world, and spend time savouring His humility and goodness so that we are light to others.

“Let us look deep within ourselves and yearn for a second incarnation to take place within us. We must trust God and abandon ourselves to Him alone." R.R.4
