Saint Maur International School, Yokohama, Japan commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake which took place on September 1, 1923.
The school held a minute silence in memory of the twenty-six Infant Jesus Sisters, students, staff and people in Japan who perished during the earthquake.
Jeanette Thomas, former School Head and former Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Saint Maur International School, Yokohama, Japan writes:
‘As I knew both Sr. Denis and Sr. Enda well, survivors, I felt very compelled to write the article and share their account of the earthquake.
The Infant Jesus Sisters have contributed so much to Japan, and in particular to education since 1872, something to be remembered and celebrated’.
